Overview:

The Chocolate Tang, also known as the Chocolate Surgeonfish or Brown Mimic Tang, is a unique and eye-catching species known for its deep brown coloration and subtle highlights across the body. Juveniles often mimic angelfish species as a natural defense strategy, while adults take on a more uniform chocolate-brown tone with distinct pale markings near the tail and dorsal fin.

This tang is generally reef safe and valued for its algae-grazing behavior, making it both a functional and visually appealing addition to a reef or fish-only system. Like other members of the Acanthurus genus, it may become territorial toward similar species, especially in smaller aquariums. Best suited for mature systems with plenty of swimming space and live rock for grazing.
