Rainbow Bubble Tip Anemone (RBTA)

Species: Entacmaea quadricolor

Origin: Aquacultured or Indo-Pacific

Overview:

The Rainbow Bubble Tip Anemone is a show-stopping addition to any reef aquarium, known for its vibrant coloration and flowing, bubble-like tentacles. This stunning anemone ranges in shades of red, orange, green, and blue, creating a dynamic visual focal point. RBTAs are also a natural host for many species of clownfish, adding to their appeal and functionality in reef systems.

As with all anemones, Rainbow Bubbles are mobile and may roam the aquarium until they find an ideal location. It's recommended to add them before sessile corals to reduce the risk of stings. Once established, they can thrive for years and may reproduce by splitting under optimal conditions.

Care Details:

  • Minimum Tank Size: 30 gallons
  • Care Level: Moderate
  • Temperament: Aggressive (mobile stinger)
  • Lighting Requirement: Medium to High (150–350 PAR)
  • Flow: Moderate (gentle movement without direct blasting)
  • Feeding: Primarily photosynthetic; may benefit from occasional small, meaty target feedings (e.g. mysis shrimp)
  • Growth: Capable of reproducing through natural splitting

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 75 – 78°F
  • pH: 8.1 – 8.4
  • Salinity: 1.025 – 1.026
  • Alkalinity: 8 – 9.5 dKH
  • Calcium: 400 – 450 ppm
  • Magnesium: 1300 – 1450 ppm
  • Nitrate (NO₃): 10 – 25 ppm
  • Phosphate (PO₄): 0.01 – 0.1 ppm
  • Nitrite (NO₂) & Ammonia (NH₃): Undetectable

Tank Placement Tips:

Place the anemone in a crevice or rocky area where it can securely attach with its foot. Expect it to move, especially in the first few days, as it searches for its preferred lighting and flow conditions. Use foam or mesh guards on powerheads to prevent injury.

Reef Compatibility:

Anemones will sting nearby corals or invertebrates they come into contact with. For best success, add anemones before other sessile livestock. With careful planning, they can coexist in mixed reef systems.

Available Sizes:

  • Small (S): 1 – 2" (may arrive under 1" but expand once acclimated)
  • Medium (M): 2 – 3"
  • Large (L): 3 – 5"
  • Extra Large (XL): 5 – 7"

Important Livestock Notices:

  • This anemone has not been quarantined.
  • We recommend that all new livestock are quarantined prior to introduction into your display system.
  • Photos are for reference only — the anemone you receive will not be the exact specimen pictured. Appearance may vary based on size, color morph, and environmental factors.
  • All livestock must be drip-acclimated slowly to ensure a safe transition to your aquarium.
